An ID card lamination module can improve badge durability by adding a protective layer over the printed card and can also support specialized security laminates when required. Lamination is especially useful when badges are expected to remain in service for extended periods or are exposed to frequent handling and demanding environments.

Lamination also adds equipment cost, consumable cost, heat, maintenance requirements, and production time, so it is not necessary for every badge program. The decision should be based on expected badge life, environment, print volume, security requirements, and total cost of ownership.
